The concept phase has become the most critical to the product development cycle. As an example, the ongoing electrification of mobility requires redefining structures to accommodate and address new packaging challenges related to securing the battery pack. Body structures or components must be lightweight, meet performance requirements, be scalable, and deliver the same level of performance across different configurations, with minimum design changes. Fabien CHANCELDesigner Agile Project - Air Liquide |
Fabien is a designer/engineer working with agile methods at the Air Liquide campus innovation center. He has worked on healthcare device projects and used generative design apps for 4 years. His background is in robotics, UX design, product design, and motion, and is committed to innovation in order to make faster access to proof of concepts, integrated with a focus on a user-centric approach, human ergonomics, low material use, and price. He uses the CATIA application for this alongside craft methods. Chancel believes that design innovation is only possible with a mix of multidisciplinary methods, tools, and people. |
Behrooz SHAHIDISimulation Integration Manager - Ford Motor Company North America & Europe |
Behrooz SHAHIDI is the Global Vehicle Simulation Integration Manager at Ford Motor Company North America & Europe. His department has responsibilities of leading Ford CAE disciplines, which include vehicle safety, vehicle durability, vehicle NVH, Thermal System Engineering, and vehicle weight optimization, through all phases of product development – from Architecture concept development through tooling release, testing, and Job 1. Behrooz has over 20 years of management experience at Ford, leveraging CAE to achieve optimized body and vehicle designs that best balance attribute tradeoffs and performance targets. He has been a core part of Ford’s truck, SUV, car, and future EV vehicle programs. Vehicles he supported include Ford Explorer, F-Series, Ranger, EcoSport, Escape, Fusion, Expedition, Transit, Taurus, Focus, Mustang, and Flex. Behrooz had a long-standing association with Body Structures CAE, where he supervised the evolution of several vehicle programs. He was leading a team responsible for evaluating Body Stiffness, NVH, and Durability attributes. Since the beginning of 2016, Behrooz has been the Manager for CAE Integration within the Digital innovation group at Ford, where he plans to leverage heavily on a CAE-driven design process. Behrooz is credited for successfully bringing Dassault SFE into Ford as a key tool to develop vehicle concepts and utilize its powerful features and capabilities to quickly create vehicle concepts and their variants for study. With CATIA and SIMULIA suite of tools (Abaqus, Eyesight, Tosca), Behrooz pioneered and implemented a process using SFE’s abilities to help Ford select a single architecture concept for product design execution. Behrooz is currently exploring leveraging SIMULA for Ford’s new MBSE activities. |
