8 - Ergo catalog & Floor & Partial Loading

Ergonomics Tutorial

In this lesson:

Ergo Catalog

When you install EWD you have access to a free catalog of resources commonly used in the manufacturing industry.

In order to have access to the catalog, Download the catalog below :

Then you can explore the catalog on the 3DExperience.

Why import resources from this catalog?

As explained before, there is an algorithm that automatically finds key points on tools when you categorize them. This algorithm may sometimes not work as intended.

For the tools contained in the catalog provided with EWD, those key points were manually placed on the tool to make sure that the grasps will be good.

Once the catalog is imported inside your 3DExperience, you will then be able to import resources inside your environment:

1 - Import resources outside 3D Simulation

First, you need to go out of the "3D Simulation" state. By clicking on the icon below.

Then you'll be able to insert a resource from the catalog like any other part.
Make sure to open the resource you want to import in another tab then the catalog tab:

You'll then be able to move the resource at the right location and relaunch the "3D Simulation" mod to come back to EWD interface.

2 - Import resources with "Add resource" button

By putting your mouse over a resource of the resource panel, you'll be able to see the "add resource" button.

By clicking, on it, you'll then be able to select the resource just like in the previous method.

1 Tip for you

When you first move an object in EWD this panel opens:
This panel is asking you what you want to do with this object. In our case we want to modify the layout of the production line. But if you click on the button "Modify layout" and move the object again, the panel will reopen.

The tip is to not click on "Modify layout" button every time you move the object. You can change the object location as much as you want and when you are satisfied with the location, then you can click on "Modify layout" to save the object location.

2 - Directly import resource from the catalog

Like in the previous method to import a resource. If you put your mouse over a resource in EWD. You'll be able to click on "Add resource from catalog" icon.
Then the catalog browser panel will open:

The problem is that it is empty or at least it doesn't contain the catalog that we've just imported. To add the Ergo_Catalog to the "Catalog Browser" panel, click on the top left "Button" of the "Catalog Browser" panel. Then click on "more" button on the new panel:
Then select the Ergo_Catalog that is already open in another tab of the 3DExperience.
Now the Ergo_Catalog is listed inside the "Catalog Browser" panel and you can select the resource to import directly from this panel (you don't need to have the resource open in another tab of the 3DExperience).

Floor

At Ergonomic Workplace Design opening, the application will look for a footprint inside your resource nodes.

  • If the application doesn't find any footprint, it will automatically create one and place it at the bottom limit of your 3D environment
  • If the application finds a footprint inside your resource nodes, it will not create a new one, and this footprint will be defined as the floor for the worker task creation
  • If you have several footprints inside your resource nodes, the application will ask you to select one footprint as the floor for the future worker task you'll create.

Move the floor

You can move the floor height if no worker task was created in your environment.

If you have one or several worker tasks, you'll have to delete them in order to be able to move the floor height.
