The race is on to innovate to develop new sources of energy in order to help fight climate change. Marine energies are emerging as a credible means for electricity generation from non-carbon sources. With its expansive coastlines, France, has very high marine energy production potential, and thus has the opportunity to  race ahead in this sector.

An Undulating membrane inspired by bio-mimicry

20 years of research by Jean-Baptiste Drevet on the coupling between fluids and undulating membranes has allowed him to give life to EEL Energy. The compant develops an undulating membrane inspired by bio-mimicry  - the motion made by fish swimming – to generate electricity from marine or river currents.

• This solution is simple and robust, with high performance thanks to an extended collecting surface. The ergonomics extend implantation potential, due to slower and shallow water flow.

Several prototypes have already been successfully tested in a North Sean flume tank (in partnership with IFREMER). The 1:6 scale prototype is being tested with already very promising results

The EEL® technology is patented internationally (by 5 patents). The company, based in Paris and Boulogne-sur-Mer, brings together a multidisciplinary team and works with leading partners, including IFREMER or HUTCHINSON (a TOTAL Group subsidiary).

EEL ENERGY'S JOURNEY

EEL ENERGY has been involved in the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab program since 2017. They have adopted the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the Cloud for Design, Systems and Simulation solutions.

Modeling and simulation are essential needs for the company, especially during the ongoing development phase of their prototypes. Defining the design and the most relevant choices of materials, collaborating with suppliers of components, and anticipating the performance of its machines is an added value from Dassault Systèmes solutions.
