Enhanced app: xDesign
New xDesign landing page
Description: When launching xDesign, the user is presented with a new landing page. This gives users more options and is also easier to use than before with links to user assistance and training as well as New Component, Open existing data or import.
Customer Benefits: A much more aesthetically pleasing starting point to xDesign, with the added benefit of being easier to use with more options to get started and up and running faster
Quick tours
Description: Quick tours is a graphical assistance to guide users through typical workflows
Customer Benefits: Be productive sooner by having a tour of the functionality available and accelerate the learning process
Mobile and Touchscreen Improvements
Description: New features to make using xDesign and xShape with Touch Screen devices more productive.
- Instant feedback on edit feature (double click etc.)
- “Touch Mode” enlargement for Constraint icons
- Robot ruler & snap feedback big enough for finger use
- Box selection (“view lock”) moves to touch toolbar
- Tuning for vertices & the origin
- And much more…
Customer Benefits: Enhanced mobile / touchscreen user experience allows users to be more productive when using their tools on the go.
Multi-tasking
Description: It is now possible to run more than one command at the same time. For example, show/hide or measure whilst in the middle of modeling command.
Customer Benefits: Better usability as components can be hidden or shown, or measurements can be taken without exiting out of another command, increasing productivity.
New Import Option
Description: It is now possible to import STL files as a visual reference
Customer Benefits: Data from mesh modeling tools or 3D scans can be imported directly for modeling around as a visual reference.
Enhanced Splines
Description: Splines can now close up on themselves to create a closed contour
Customer Benefits: Now it is possible to create closed contours using a single spline to get the result required
3D Printing
Description: Print3D Usability enhancements as we added 3D Printer Directory
- From Wohlers Associates
- With all major 3D Printer manufacturers and models build envelopes for checking build size and orientation
Customer Benefits: Check your design fits inside your 3D Printer or any other 3D Printer on the market
Assemblies
Description: Support for mates. When forming or dissolving an assembly, mates are now carried through
Customer Benefits: Less rework when changing the structure of assemblies
Lifecycle
Description: New Lifecycle Tab on Action Bar and a New “Subway” graph view
Customer Benefits: Easier to visualize and work with design changes
Improved User Experience
Description: Sketch Status in Design Manager
Customer Benefits: Easier to see where and when errors have occurred
Enhanced app: xShape
xShape Landing Page
Description: When launching xShape, the user is presented with a new landing page. This gives users more options and is also easier to use than before with links to user assistance and training as well as New Component, Open existing data or import.
Customer Benefits: A much more aesthetically pleasing starting point to xShape, with the added benefit of being easier to use with more options to get started and up and running faster
Mobile / Touchscreen Improvements
Description: New capabilities to make using xShape with Touch Screen devices more productive
Primitives placement – OK/Cancel button allows user to accept the current position of the primitive, cancel out or keep dragging the primitive
Crease sharpness slider - Use the slider without accidently rotating model and relocate the slider bar to get it of the way
Vertices are now easier to select
Double tap to select an entire loop and Face selection performance improved
Customer Benefits: Enhanced mobile / touchscreen user experience allows users to be more productive when using their tools on the go.
Several additional Mobile / Touchscreen enhancements have been made both to xShape and xDesign apps. See more details in xDesign what's new.
Sub-D UI
Description: “Show cage only” option: New display option in sub-d allows users to see and work only with the sub-d cage.
Customer Benefits: This helps simplify the view while modeling in sub-d and helps in trouble shooting sub-d issues like self intersection
Description: Insert Loop UI improvement. While inserting a loop, the old midpoint manipulator symbol has been replaced with the sketch symbol for midpoint
Customer Benefits: The old manipulator was confusing to users who thought that they could move the loop. This is a more intuitive way to insert a loop at a midpoint.
Description: Input flags positioning. After clicking to place a primitive, input flags will be automatically positioned off the model geometry instead of on top of model geometry.
Customer Benefits: This allows easier access to all of the model geometry for modification with less clutter and eliminates the step of having to move the flags before editing the geometry
Description: Flex Feature Manipulator snaps to inference lines. When creating a Flex feature, the manipulator now snaps to horizontal and vertical inference lines.
Customer Benefits: Now you can ensure that you are creating the Flex feature with respect to the horizontal and vertical axes in your model.
Description: Continue, Cancel, OK in-context toolbar for selection. When selecting geometry during feature creation, the “continue” command () accepts the selection you made and creates the feature, but leaves you in the command to make more selections. OK (
) completes the command and exits, while “cancel” (
) cancels out of the command.
Customer Benefits: The “continue” command reduces picks needed to create features thereby speeding up your design process.
Description: Primitives automatically scaled to zoom level upon placement. When placing a primitive, the feature automatically resizes to an appropriate scale. The user zooms in on the area to place the primitive and by doing so controls its size.
Customer Benefits: Automatic scaling of the primitive eliminates the frustration associated with bringing in a primitive that is so large that it fills the screen or so small that you can’t see it. It also saves time in not having to rescale the primitive manually.
Multi-tasking
Description: Run more than one command at a time. It is now possible to run more than one command at the same time. For example, show/hide or measure whilst in the middle of modeling command.
Customer Benefits: Better usability as components can be hidden or shown, or measurements can be taken without exiting out of another command, increasing productivity
