New CAD integration support

The release further opens the power of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to more users of traditional, file-based mechanical CADs (MCAD) and electrical CADs (ECAD), and connects them to the 3DEXPERIENCE model-based semantics.

  • Launched in the Release 2018x, the strategy opens the power of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, initially to CATIA V5 and SOLIDWORKS Desktop users. This enables designers to connect to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for improved collaboration and data management & sharing with the enterprise, as well as access to the rich platform capabilities from right inside the design environment such tasks, changes. 3D Design data is revealed on the web and mobile devices to any stakeholder wherever they may be and in real time, for 3D configuration management and editing of the physical product structure, 3D reviews, or 3D issue management. Other users can then discover immediately and seamlessly additional simulation, manufacturing, marketing 3DEXPERIENCE applications, and advanced engineering applications, that directly leverage the 3D product design data, without the need for translation.
  • Release 2020x now the capabilities of this strategy to users of AutoCAD, Inventor and Altium. This ensures continuity across multi-discipline MCAD and ECAD environments with 3DEXPERIENCE platform roles and apps. With a single, shared product definition, teams can more efficiently govern the product development process across the product lifecycle.
  • The release also brings the power of the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform further into the CATIA V5 and SOLIDWORKS Desktop environments by simplifying access to the product definition (e.g. the physical product structure, maturity, etc.) and related apps (tasks, change, etc.) directly from within their CAD software. For instance, from within their CAD software, users can see their assigned tasks, and can directly open the CAD models within those tasks.

New widget: Model Definition

Product Managers have the complex task of planning and maintaining which models and variants the enterprise wants to develop and deliver to market.  The 3DEXPERIENCE Twin, which requires that all digital product representations leverage the same underlying model, greatly simplifies this effort as all facets of the plan (variants, effectivity, model revisions, etc.) are encompassed in the Twin and therefore always aligned with the implementation through engineering, simulation, manufacturing, services, marketing.

The R2020x release brings a new model definition widget enabling Product Managers to prepare and manage product configurations directly from a 3DDashboard. The new widget significantly improves the ability of product planners and managers to compare and edit several product configurations at once. Users can now more easily organize their product configuration information, and efficiently find and reuse/apply product variants and options into their product portfolio plan.

Enhanced widget: Configured Product Development

Release R2020x advances how users leverage a single, configured, model-based product definition (as enabled by the 3DEXPERIENCE Twin) by allowing them to view and work on a configuration as a list of components and options. A new default table view allows for the display and mass editing of properties.  In addition, users can more easily generate part numbers according to company standards, and tag and view items to buy.

Enhanced role: Project Planning

Planning is an activity for all stakeholders in the enterprise. R2019x introduced the new Project Planner role for cloud users to provide a “planning for all” experience for individuals and teams, with the tools needed to plan work and drive innovation in a social and collaborative way.  With this role, any stakeholder or innovation team can collaboratively define a plan, create/assign, and organize activities in a simple, intuitive and social way. Naturally, ENOVIA also supports top-down formal and industrial project/program plans.  With R2020x, the ‘social’ plan is enhanced:

  • Any task or milestone can be connected to the formal, and industrial project/program plan.
  • A “What’s New” feed provides the latest information and updates on the projects users are involved in. This provides real-time visibility into the pulse of the company, in a social and collaborative way that is tailored specifically to them.

With clear insight into plans, users gain the ability to prioritize day-to-day activities, making operations more efficient. Non-value added work is reduced throughout the value network by streamlining the process of identifying updates and information, while ensuring updated information is consistently communicated with teams.

New app: IP Classification & Reuse

The new “IP Classify and Reuse” application available in a R2020x widget provides users with easy and intuitive way to create classifications. Items placed into these classes will inherit the attributes of the class and librarians can easily edit the attributes. Users across the enterprise can easily find items they are looking for by browsing the classification, filtering by these attributes (e.g. the 6W tags will inherit the attributes of the class), or searching within a class. Users can then drag and drop the selected item from the classification widget directly into any other widget such as product structure editing widget, product release widget, 3Dplay. All of the above greatly promotes reuse.

The “IP classify and reuse” widget can also be used to classify project information such as resources, activities, metrics, risks and KPI’s. This promotes allows for better organization and navigation of complex projects, and faster understanding and resolution of critical issues.
