Ask Good Questions

All community visitors are able to post questions via the yellow question mark icon:

Here are some top tips for getting the answer you are looking for:

Before you ask the question

  • Read the documentation
  • Search the community for similar questions and filter on validated ones:

Asking your question

  • Use a meaningful, specific title and reference the role, app or tool you are working in (e.g. Solidworks software, 3D Dashboard, Product Communicator Role etc.)
  • Be precise and informative about your problem. This will save you time as, without sufficient detail, your likely replies will be ‘more detail please’!
  • Precision at its best: Provide a minimal example that is just enough to exhibit the undesirable behavior and no more. You will learn a lot while creating it, and others will better understand your question and how to best respond.
  • If you think you have found a problem: Describe what you did, your expect results, and your actual result. Don't try to make guesses about why this result happened.
  • If you have problems reaching a goal along a particular path, ask only about how to reach the goal. Your path might be the wrong one!

Demonstrating your growth mindset

  • Show you are willing to help yourself and that you are trying to gain competence.
  • Ask for pointers, not solutions – remember the aim is that you can become independent!
  • Write so that you can be proud of your post/question.

Our Community experts

  • Experts actually like hard problems and thought-provoking questions.
  • Expertise is abundant, time to answer is not. Ask in a way that helps community experts save their time while maximizing the help you will receive.

Note there is no support for:

  • Academic licenses (with exceptions)
  • Programming (user subroutines, scripting)

Didn’t get an answer to your question?

The main reasons for a question being unanswered are:

  • Lack of information.
  • Dumping details into the community (landfill-style).
  • Almost NEVER due to a lack of expertise!
