Working with large .STEP files

Hi users,

I am here hoping for some expert advice simply on the first direction to take moving forward to work within Solidworks using a supplied .STEP file.

A large model has been supplied as per the snip…130kb containing hundreds of sub-assemblies and parts.  Some of which I will use unchanged, while others will be modified to create new parts & produce manufacturing drawings.

For example: folded sheet metal parts in .STEP format I believe won’t be able to be ‘flattened’ so will need to be re-created as a .SLDPRT to then generate a .DXF file for manufacture. That’s fine I can do that.

The main design intent from the client point of view is to maintain consistency and accuracy of design.  Further to that my goal is to be time efficient for the obvious reason that time is of course money.

Any advice at this early stage would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance!
