Why can I not select a helix after using it as a sweep?

Hi all,

I created a helix in order to sweep a thread profile.  My profile sketch was on a default plane.  Then, I needed to change the start angle of the thread - so I edit the helix and change the start angle, but the thread kept its orientation because the profile is on a "vertical" plane.  I tried to make a plane through the end of the helix to keep the profile located where the helix starts, but I cannot select the helix endpoint on screen.  I cannot even select the helical curve to edit it - I need to grab it from the tree.  This is a repeatable issue - I created a new helix and am able to create my plane - but as soon as I use it for a sweep, I cannot select it anymore.  (I think this is true for all 3D curves???)

Is this normal / expected behavior?  Is there a way around it?  Shouldn't I be able to use the curve geometry for multiple features?

Thanks for your input...
