What determines the driving Equipotential in Solidworks Elec terminals when bridging?

The terminal bridging in solidworks electrical is frustrating.  From what I can find, when bridging terminals, the terminals should take the equipotential mark of the first terminal.  After I assign the first terminal and bridge and then add subsequent wires to the terminal strip upon renumbering the wires it arbitrarily picks another wire as the number.  Flipping direction in Wire Cable management does nothing.  Solving equipotential conflicts when the blue dot appears and selecting the number works until re-number and the problem is back. There seems to be no clear way to understand how the software assigns bridging.  How exactly does one drive the wire to be assigned to the bridging without having to set the equipotential to a manual mark?
