I'm working on some equipment racks and the people here want to get everything properly documented, including BOMs. They are using weldments to model the racks, but I'm not sure this is the best way to go about it.
I've never used weldments before, and the racks we're building aren't welded, they're assembled using traditional hardware. We currently don't have PDM software, but we are working towards bring it in sometime soon. My concern is that the weldments only contain the structural members, and the hardware will have to be added in an assembly file. That's going to bugger up our assembly drawings, as well as our documentation, since there are no actual part numbers attached to the components. I am really leaning towards moving them from doing the racks as weldments and making them assemblies. Am I on the right track? Has anyone done anything like this before?
Thanks!
Al
