When you create a cutlist the As Welded and As Machined configurations are created and the the cutlist is tied to the As Welded config. This is good in theory as you can model the framework in the As Welded config then add holes in the As Machined config, the problem comes in when you create the cutlist. When you suppress the holes in the As Welded config then the cutlist will group like members together (otherwise every member could be a separate item number). This is great for the saw operator as he can just cut 5 of x piece at whatever length, and it reduced the size of the cutlist to a reasonable level. Now because the 2 configs are different, the cutlist in the As Machined config could have items that have ungrouped because there is a hole or cut making it unique. The problem comes in when you then try and balloon these items in a view that is showing the As Machined configuration. The cutlist always pulls the info from the As Welded config but if you balloon an item the has ungrouped in the As Machined config, SW doesn't know what to call it.
My other issue with this is that sometimes cuts and holes go in before it is welded but after it is cut, so I want my cutlist for the saw operator to be grouped but I want a unique item number to differentiate it for the fabricator.
My ER is this:
Basically I want to have an indented cutlist. Items that are the same profile and the same length would group at a top level, then there would be subgroups under that.
For example if you had 3 pieces of HSS 3x3x.25 at 24" long and it was ITEM 1, but one had a hole in it, the cutlist would show Qty 3..... This would mean that the saw operator could then cut 3 pieces of the specified member rather then having to scan through the cutlist to make sure he got them all. Then when you went to balloon that item in the As Machined view the balloons would show 1.1 and 1.2. This would tell the fabricator that this is Item 1 from the cutlist but 1.1 and 1.2 are different.
Now they could add options to show the indented items and Qty's in the cutlist or not, I would probably use split balloons.
Please let me know what you think or can add.
