Using Light appearances

How am I supposed to utilize light appearances in Solidworks 2016? I am trying to setup a lighted factory environment and I don't want to have to set point or spot lights in 25 different locations. I did try to set up a spot light, but it too did not show up in Photoview 360 well. Even if that one would have shown up better those sort of lights don't use geometry for a location, if they did and they worked better I would re-consider them. What I want to use are the bodies as the light source location, but I cannot get them to illuminate well. I am using a Luminous intensity setting of 100 I can barely get any light out of the appearance. I have tried area light, neon tube, LED and back light, but none seem to work the way I would expect them too.

Any ideas on how to make this work??
