Using a Global Variable? While you create that feature you won't...

Ok, got the Friday afternoon slappies and am looking to either be educated, applauded for discovering a potential Enhancement Request or lampooned for being a dunderhead.

So...if I go through the trouble of entering global variables prior to creating my model to speed-up design, why can't I enter the desired variable in say, the feature direction box and instead I'm forced to;

enter a numeric value,

'ok' the feature,

click on the feature again,

double-click the dimension created

get the Modify box

click the drop-down arrow

select 'Add equation'

enter the equation name

and finally ok it?

In other words; is it not possible to enter the name of an existing equation or global variable for the dimension of a feature in lieu of a numeric value?
