** URGENT WARNING ** IE 8 May Cause SW Not to Run!!!

Microsoft is now pushing their new Internet Explorer 8 as anupdate. If you have Windows XP (64 bit) and are running SolidWorks2009 SP3, chances are high that SolidWorks WILL NOT START if youinstall it.

I don't know how many other OS are affected or versions.

Please visit this thread for more info...

SW2009 X64 SP3.0 Startup Problem

I had this problem a few days ago and did a roll-back which made mysystem a bit unstable, but at least I could run SW again.

I spent the entire weekend reformatting and reinstalling, only todiscover to my horror that SolidWorks STILL wouldn't run (it wasthe last program I installed after all Microsoft patches were in).

This was the fix that worked for me...

2. Turn off the News Feeds. Since SolidWorks does not start in thisstate, the option will have to be disabled directly in the Windowsregistry. Please use caution while working in the registry. Theoption can be found inHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2009\General. Find"Show Latest News feeds In task pane" and change its value from "1"to "0."

Thanks to everyone in the thread for bringing attention to this.
