I have been fighting to update a file reference for a component in an assembly, shown below:

 

That is the old, unwanted path. I have tried updating references in the open dialog, pack-and-go, replacing component (as the property box suggests), and deleting and reinserting from the correct location, restarting Solidworks completely. None of that has fixed it, it always goes back to the same place.

I cannot rename, delete, or move the old file which will break the old assembly as that is an active job. I have read some posts saying to restart my computer to fix this, but there are many such references I need to change, restarting my computer each time is both impractical and not an actual solution.

What am I doing wrong here?
