I checked this Total commander plugin:

SolidWorks Preview plugin for TC download | SourceForge.net

I tried to make a Total commander plugin to work with SW 2015 files, and it doesn't.  The plugin doesn't generate a graphical preview of the file, only some binary text is shown instead. Maybe somebody uses this plugin, and has an experience how to make it work? I truly believe that the cause of the fail of the plugin is a changed solidworks files format, making the plugin to not being able to extract the preview information from the file.
