To show or not to show items in drawings - Reference planes and reference points

When showing model items like reference planes and reference points in my drawing I'm seeing two behaviors.  For reference points when I insert them to all or indvidual views using "Insert->Model Items" command I see all the reference points from all levels (top-level assembly, sub-assembly, sub-part). But for reference planes  I don't see any plane from any level and I have to manually go and show them manually for the ones I have to see. I can see the benefits from both behaviors. What default behaviors do users prefer in this case? Should we only show items at the top-level, at all levels or nothing and users can choose what reference geometry items to show.

Thoughts?

Thanks.
