SW2010 x64 on new Win7 wkstn crashes when opening drawings

We just got some new Win7 workstations. Brand new HP Z400 workstation: Win7 x64, 8GB RAM, Quadra 600 video card with driver above the version number certified, etc.

I was able to install SW 2010 x64 SP5.0 with no trouble.

SW launches, and I was able to open a part and view it.

But when I try to open any drawing, or try to create a new part, SW _instantly_ crashes, giving me the "reboot sw and recover drawings" dialogue box.

I did a clean-install of SW 2010 x64 SP5.0, following the instructions I found on javelin-tech.com's site for removing the registry entries.

Same problem existed after clean install.

I did a clean-install of SW 2010 x64 SP0, again following the instructions referenced above; same result: SW will open parts but crashes trying to open drawings or create new parts, etc.

The same issue is happening to two of the four workstations. Two worked okay, but this morning (after OS patches?) are now showing the same issues.

I suspected that this is a problem relating to file paths, but thought I searched for any references to non-existent paths, I couldn't resolve the problem.

I did notice that even the clean-installed SW had references in the File Locations to folder paths that didn't actually exist in my Win7 machine, such as "SolidWorks 2010" when the actual folder is "SolidWorks Corp", etc.

I tried to remove all these references I could find to "fictitious" paths, but never resolved the issue.

My IT support has taken some of the workstations away, planning on clean-installing the OS image fresh, but I am not confident this will resolve the issue.

I hope this is old news with an easy fix, but I couldn't find anything cromulent by Googling or searching here.

Will you RKIs help me out?

Thanks,

~Rick
