SW material yield strength vs "true" yield strength

Hi everyone,

this might a bit of a nooby question, but it's been bugging me for some time now and i cannot find the answer in any of the simulations documentation I have available. Simply stated: does the yield strength of the materials in SW Simulation have a default Factor of Safety applied to them?

In particular: in the company where i work, we use a yield strength of 260 [MPa] at 1% residual deformation for sheets of Stainless AISI 316L. However, SW Simulation uses sigma_y=170 [MPa]. I have always been aware of the difference, but not yet able to explain it.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
