submodelling in solidworks simulation 2013

i'm hoping that the tech support team or developers can give me some details on the submodelling in solidworks simulation 2013 because the information is somewhat sparse in the what's new documentation.

1. what are the assumptions that the method makes?

2. what are the limitations? what can be changed in the submodel beyond the mesh density? can you change from shell > solid? beam > solid? beam > shell? swap a simplfiied part for a more complicated multi-body or assembly? can you change contacts other than changing no penetration? can you add loads? can you replace virtual connectors with real connectors?

3. in the documentation it talks about a "cut" does it mean a physical cut in the assembly or just the boundary between the components you select or don't select? for example, the example shown is valid because the bonding occurs between a beam and a solid (or a shell) and not a beam to beam or shell edge to shell edge?is this just a limitation of our implementation for now or is it a general limitation of this method?

any other examples (whether they be from solidworks simulation or other) would be great to test the functionality out.

thanks.
