Statment of frustration

To Whom It May Concern: 9 January 2009

I am writing this open letter in pure frustration and a feeling ofhelplessness.

I will be placing a text copy on the SW {SolidWorks} forum, sendinga copy to my VAR. and a copy the my client. I will also place acopy on SWgeek forum

Before anyone makes the statement that I should have backup my workbefore installing Solidworks 2009 SP00 and SP01, allow me toconcede the point and I assure you it will not happen again. Myonly defense is that the crossover from 2007 to 2008 went with veryfew problems, so I thought......or did not think which ever youwish.

I have passed on some of the problems I had to my VAR (MeCadSystems) and to the credit of the support personal they admittednot being able to solve the problem and sent them to SolidWorks".All that came back was it's a software problem, and sorry for thedifficulty.

However some of the staff of MeCad stated that they had no problemswith other SW customers, making me feel like I was the problem. Thefollowing are the returns from SW:

Hey Doug, Here is the reply I got from solidWorks. Dear Janis,Your SR 1-1055863691 (VAR SR# ) has been updated. For details, review under the Comments area of My SR's (Service Request) on theportal. When you save the part template after you created it, thenit gives alot of errors. It worked fine in SW 2008. Hello Janis,Thank you for contacting technical support. This is a know issuewhich has been reported to our development team with the SPR below:SPR #462357: Fail to find feature reference in part template witherror 'Some filleted items are no longer in the model.' when usingthe template DUP OF Features within part template (templatecreated/saved in SolidWorks 2009) lose their references. I haveattached this SPR to the service request so you will be notifiedwhen it has been fixed. I am sorry for this inconvenience but besure this SPR is under investigation. Unfortunately, the only wayis currently not to save it as prtdot but keep is as a part and usesave as for each new document. Another Work around it to use thetemplate in the 2008 Version (If they had a backup) because theproblem appear only on 2009 document version. I am going to markthis Service Request as 'closed'. If you have any objections, please let me know. Keep in mind that the Software PerformanceReport (SPR) mentioned above will remain open while the developmentteam works on the issue. You may track the progress of your ServiceRequests and SPRs in the "My Support" section of the CustomerPortal. You will also receive a survey request by email at the endof the month (maximum of 1 per month) asking you for feedbackregarding your overall experience with one of your ServiceRequests. The feedback provided in the surveys helps us makeprocess, system, and policy changes for improving technical supportfor delivering high quality service. Your participation in thissurvey would be much appreciated and your feedback highly valued.Best Regards, ________________________________________Jérôme MARGET Technical Support Engineer DassaultSystèmes | www.3ds.com Visit us at: www.solidworks.comDassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp.- 300 Baker Avenue -CONCORD, MA 01742, USA PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL. Hey doug This is what solidworks replied to me. Hi Janis, Thiscrash is a software fault rather than a corrupt model. I havetested this in SW2009 SP2 (an early build) and the crash no longeroccurs - the problem is fixed in that service pack. Obviously thisdoesn't help the customer get their work out now - butunfortunately I haven't been able to find a workaround. SP2 Earlyvisibility version is scheduled for soon, so maybe the customershould update to that version. Kind regards, Nick

I have called my VAR to ask for the early version of SP2 butas of this time I have not received it. And its 5 days later.

I was on the SW forum where I stated some of the problems as welland there fond many who where having the same and more. Right now Ido not know which way to turn.

If I start talking about the problems ...... hell I don't now whereto start. The thing that has led to this letter, happen just ashort while ago. I opened a drawing that I had done (openedalright) selected a drawing sheet and a drawing view, flat pattern, right click to open the part. While in the part I did a save-as tosave the flat pattern to DXF and then closed the prt saving as itclosed. Back at the drawing the dimension disconnected, bend linesmove off. So I closed the file without saving, and reopened it, tofind that things where still messed up. Assemblies breaking down, templates that cost days of work some times week to setup, notusable and it just keeps going on.
There is no pleasure in starting a design or just doing any workwith SW. Because there are so many links I have no idea which fileare 2009 which are 2008. I can go back and am not able to moveforward with fear and never knowing if things will stay together.

I am running out of time and fully expect my client to tell me to........ it is costing him money and in the end it's going to costme. I don't know what to say to them anymore, they must be startingto feel I am just ... just what, I don't know what they think butit can't be good.

Please SW ......... what do I want to say .... Many thing some willnot be helpful but I need to be able to work as I did in SW2008please HELP
