SolidWorks Packaging Design Engineer - Dallas, TX

This position is responsible for new packaging development at Fusion from inception to design, through engineering, validation and product verification. Responsible for meeting design requirements for product function, aesthetics, performance, reliability and quality, per customer specifications and standards.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS:

  • Reports directly to Design and Development Director

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Works closely with marketing, sales, account management, operations, and design teams in Dallas to establish product requirements, and creates engineering designs as needed by the company to provide solutions for innovative product packaging
  • Is a key liaison between Dallas and China engineering and China teams, and is responsible for leading team activity for developing and implementing engineering projects with Fusion suppliers, in conjunction with design & quality, and Fusion Dallas corporate teams to meet the technical, design and quality aspects of the project

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates new product drawings in SolidWorks
  • Provides solutions necessary to achieve innovative designs
  • Develops product checklists to insure all requirements are included in the design intent
  • Communicates, directs and manages tasks given to China team engineers, and package engineering
  • Works with suppliers to get factory drawings that meet all requirements
  • Insures quality designs from knowledge of plastics molding, materials, designs, product interaction, and a consumer requirements perspective
  • Drives engineering and product development programs from conception through implementation; plans and coordinates associated activities
  • Develops and executes project timelines for packaging programs to ensure achievement of launch targets
  • Writes specifications as part of the specification process
  • Troubleshoots technical issues and identifies and coordinates design/mold modifications with suppliers
  • Participates in new mold validation, and verification and insures that designs can meet functional requirements
  • Continually develops and improves standards, internal systems, and processes

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering required
  • 4+ years’ experience in packaging engineering with drawing design, with primary components required
  • Working knowledge of plastics molding, rigid plastics materials, design, performance requirements, and functional testing
  • Mold qualification experience
  • Mandarin speaking preferred
  • Domestic and international travel required (25%)
