SOLIDWORKS MBD for sheet-metal and Composer

Soldiworks MBD is moving in the right direction  ....   i really like the new capabilites:

  • use MBD-dimensions in composer
  • advanced tolerance support for Solidworks CAM
  • sheet-metal MBD-support

combined with the compatibility with Inspection (SW2018) and Photoview360 (SW2016) nearly the whole multiproduct environment is supported.

but there is still so much that is not working and there will be a lot of new questions regarding these new 2019-features:

  • to use MBD-dimensions in manufacturing a lot of existing limitation has to be resolved re' the basic DimXpert flexibility.
  • exporting a fully dimensioned MBD file to composer is working! (but without layer/annotation-views/DimXpert-features we can expect a lot of ER's and questions from the users)

some limitations I figured out in my last meeting:

  • add dimensions without applying a annotationview afterwards–   SPR 679088
  • simple dimension between two reference-planes from 2 different parts is not working as it should – NEU - 1-18419583721
  • annotation views need to be associative with moving parts to ensure the same dimensions projection for moving components in an assembly - SR 1-18421917135
  • configurations only are able to store a copy of a dimension Scheme - they can not refer to an existing configurations  -since that point you copy the scheme from another config you have to update all of them manually - 1-18422330253
  • DimXpert dims can not refer to sketch-entities (similar: SPR  809718 ): best fit: SPR  649487
  • DimXpert dims can not refer to surface bodies  - 1-18422997263
  • unable apply colors or layers to existing dimensions-   SPR 943684
  • sketch pictures are not supported in 3D-pdf's  -  1-18422997983
  • place sketches behind the solidmodel/surface model in viewport (solidworks, edrawings, 3dPDF)-   SPR 582942

feel free to add your comment about the SheetMetal MBD functionality or simply vote for one of the ER's above.

happy testing

Dominik
