Hello everyone,
I’m currently experiencing an issue with SOLIDWORKS 2024 where my settings are not being saved properly.
Problem description
I am trying to change and standardize settings such as:
- default font (drawings / annotations)
- line colors and line styles
- projection angle / view orientation settings
- drawing template / sheet format settings
Inside Options, the changes appear to be applied (in some places the preview images update as well), but when I create new drawing views / drawing derivations, the settings are not used and everything appears to be reverted.
Additional behavior
- I discussed this with our IT department and was granted local admin rights on my notebook.
→ No improvement. - Today, after restarting SOLIDWORKS / Windows, all settings are back to factory default.
- I also had issues when trying to create or save drawing templates with our company logo. SOLIDWORKS reported that I don’t have the required permissions to embed or use the file.
What I suspect
This looks like a permissions / file location / registry access problem (e.g. SOLIDWORKS cannot write to the settings storage location or template directories).
Questions
- Where exactly does SOLIDWORKS 2024 store user settings (registry / AppData / program data)?
- Are there known issues with settings being reset after restart (e.g. read-only configuration files, blocked folders, roaming profiles, antivirus/IT policies)?
- Which folders must have write access for templates, sheet formats, and custom logos to work reliably?
- Is there a recommended way to force SOLIDWORKS to use a specific drawing template/sheet format consistently?
Any help or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
