I am trying to simulate an impact force from a drop test but only have static simulation available under my current licence.
Can the impact force of a falling object be simulated as a static load if the spring constant (or stiffness) of a structure is known?
In other words can I calculate this impact force and model it as a static load?
Spring constant/stiffness of the structure can be calculated using Hooke's law (F=kx) by running a static simulation with given load to obtain deformation x.
Thus the impact force on the structure can be calculated given the falling objects mass and drop height; F_impact=sqrt(mghk) based on conservation of energy.
There may be more info required and I have no way to verify this method as i do not have drop test simulation. Although this may be redundant as you would not use this method if you had access to the drop test simulation unless there is a significant computational advantage.
Thanks in advance for any response
James
