Is anyone having experience to create sheet metal flat pattern for attached post?

I have an octagonal post which is welded by two pieces of forming plate. I need to make a flat sheet metal pattern to cut. I have tried “insert bend”, “ lofted bend” and “convert to sheet metal”, which method should be used to get best result?  (To meet dimensions required after welded)
