Is there a way for me to save/copy an assembly to a new name and save the parts to all new names at the same time without PDM?

I would like to create a dummy assembly with dummy parts that I can modify but will not change the original parts or assembly.

I realize this is easy with a pdm system but we do not have one here.

I was under the impression if I do a Save As Copy on everything with the assembly pulled up that it will track the part name changes in the assembly. Correct?
