My IT department is in the proccess of "virtualizing" all of our companies computers and have recently found that they can do this with work stations as well, so of course they want to do SW. We do need new computers and I currently have a req in to get new 8GB, I7, 64 bit machines, but that is now on hold until they evaluate the virtualized workstation idea.

I don't really care how they accomplish it, I just need to get upgraded computer resources for my group. The questions I have are:

- Is this really feasable or not?

- How does it compare to a desktop system?

- If it is actually worth doing, what are the hardware requirements, for both the virtual workstation and the network, to do it right?

I can see the advantages to the IT group, but I am worried that they may push their agenda over mine.
