Request for official support of SolidWorks add-in development with .NET 8

Hi all,

currently, SolidWorks add-ins are mainly developed using .NET Framework 4.x and the official COM APIs. With the evolution of the .NET platform (Core, 6, 7, 8, 9), it would be extremely valuable to develop add-ins directly with modern .NET versions without the need for wrappers or third-party workarounds.

I therefore request that future versions of SolidWorks include:

  • Native support for add-ins built with .NET 8 and later
  • Official templates and documentation for modern .NET
  • The ability to register and load .NET 8 add-ins without dependency on legacy .NET Framework

This would improve developer productivity, code maintainability, and ensure long-term compatibility with Microsoft .NET evolution.

Does anyone have any news about this?

Regads, Marco
