Is there a way in EPDM to have a reference copy only when it move to particular state or to refer with history of the file (previous version)

we have 2 vault (test and prod). when a file move the state in test it will copy to prod. but we have huge data so huge space is required.

anyone has any idea on this please do share. thanks,
