I was giving a What's New in 2012 presentation to a customer of our yesterday and they had some general questions unrelated to the presentation. One of the topics that came up was adding Custom Properties to an individual body in a multibody part.
I know there are a few workaround like adding the Weldment feature to the tree, then assigning Cut List Properties, but if two bodies are identical they will be grouped in the same item (unless a manual Cut List was generated but then that's causing more steps than should be necessary). Another workaround would be to insert each body into a different part file, then give that part Custom Properties, but again that takes a few steps and causes a lot of extra part files to deal with (which sort of defeats the purpose of the multibody part).
One idea I had would be to add a tab, much like the Configuration Specific tab, inside of the File Properties editor to allow this ability. Another option could be to add a drop down menu inside of the Custom tab (like the drop down menu inside of the Configuration Specific tab) that would show the top level part as well as each individual body underneath it. The user could then set different Custom Properties for each body.
Would anyone else see a need for functionality to be added to be able to assign Custom Properties to individual bodies in a multibody part?
