I'm trying to add a material type to my custom properties in Solidwork's toolbox. However, I need to generate a new configuration name for each part, since there can be two screws that are the same size but different material. When I go to activate my new custom property I get the error "Applying this property will create new configuration names in the selected item and clear any existing part numbers". There are at least a thousand parts that have existing custom properties, such as vendors, part numbers, etc. so clearing existing part numbers and going back and re-typing all the properties is not an option. Is their anyway that I can have the existing parts' configuration name update to the default material instead of erasing all the existing data?
