We've decided to use our holiday shutdown in order to do an upgrade from 2009 to 2010 and I need to see if this scenario will work before we dive in:

We bought a brand new server for Enterprise 2010, so we're trying to combine the migration of servers along with the migration of files.

I want to check out the files with admin rights from our 2009 server, do the conversion of the SW data from 2009 to 2010, then check the files in to our new 2010 server.

Is this even a possibility?

If so, what version of SQL do we need and what server software is required for 2010?

If not, what else do we have to do?
