With regard to these fora, can anyone explain the differences between Places, Spaces & Categories?

And while you're at at it, can you explain how a new category can be created?

EDIT: I've just noticed that there is a "Favourites" mission & that I have somehow completed 60% of that mission without even knowing we could assign Favourites. Where is the button for that. If there is no button, how are they applied?
