I am out of ideas / and options - begging for help. I cannot believe how slow these drawings have gotten. Yes we have large assemblies, and yes we have a large amount of detail - but why does the view palette take 15 minutes to refresh - and worse - why does it need to refresh after I save - and why do need to refresh it all (to get the higher level assemblies out of the check in dialog for PDM). I am looking for solutions, not a band aid, not hide all the items in your model. I want root cause.
Yes I have contacted my VAR - both (we have 2) and both have done exceptional work in trying to help, but SW after 3 years said upgrade to 2020 it is faster... wrong. The last response we got was simplify your models...
We added PDM back in 2013 because it was going to be faster, work local, big increase in speed, which we did see - after we added SSD's. Then add composer and you can single source all of your documentation - which we did, and it great, we love it! However, we have to add more detail to the model, which slows it down. I can accept this, but really it just took 17 minutes to refresh the view palette on a 116MB drawing - and best part the assembly is telling me it needs to save - my local copy is edited but not saved, because I refreshed the view palette in hopes of checking it in and not having the PDM check in check out tree appear like this top level has parents...
Look - I have no doubt we created a lot of the issue - that's fine, spell it out, breakdown a solution. WTF am I paying for?? This is not productive at all...
If anyone has any ideas, contacts, suggestions, I would really appreciate it. If anyone from Solidworks happens upon this we are running out of patience, stop adding stupid buttons or making me need to click more than once, or fancy graphics - stop making the software try to think for me, or anticipate my moves - just make it work! I would love to be able to turn off tools, or graphics, or whatever. We have powerful PC's that are not being utilized - I currently run 3 machines and I still have to sit and wait...
I love the product - but looking forward we need a solution that is efficient, I can pay people to sit around waiting for hours a day.
Please help.
Thank you
