I am trying to install a student edition onto my Windows XP, AMD 64 Athlon, machine.
I had older versions of Solidworks, namely, 2009 SP03 & 2009 SP05.1. I removed them using the "Add/Remove" from Control Panel. I then downloaded and installed 2011 SP04. I must have used an old S/N because it wouldn't let me run it due to too many installs with that S/N. Oddly enough, just after I encounter that problem I receive an email thanking me for my interest in SW student edition. "Here is your S/N for that install!" Would have been nice to have received that email days ago!! So, I go back and remove SP04 and do a new install, this time I choose "SolidWorks 2011 x64 Edition SP02". I put in the new S/N and finish the install. I choose the "download the files to install later" because I have no idea what an "image" is, and I didn't have the preferred option of "individual install on this computer" available to me, it was grayed out. At the end of the install process I was told to go the folder with the files in it and run "setup.exe". There is a file called "setup", it is an application file. When I run it it takes me back to the downloader!?!?! It doesn't start SW, Also, I still have all the old versions of SW on my machine?!?! All the folders are still there with 1 to 2Gig in them. The 2011 x64 Edition SP02 has 5.36 gig in it.
Any ideas on what I should do to get SW started?
Please help.
Thank you,
Dan
