Non-linear analysis - No penetration contact with friction

Hi to everybody,

after successful linear analysis of my model I work on a non-linear one. Unfortunately one of my contact sets blocks the succesful computation. I´m working on a parametric study and the model is running on small dimensions of the model but not on models with bigger dimensions. The surface of the contact set increases with each model. This results in an increasing surface where force is transmitted by resulting friction. The pressure on the contact keeps constant [N/mm²] on the same level. I´m pretty sure it depends on my contact set since the simulation runs when I set the contact set as "bonded". As soon as I change it to "no penetration" and I determine friction the simulation isn´t running any more.

I already tried to adapt the mesh, the time/load increments and other parameters but the error is steadily: "too big or to small increment". The calculation process is to opaque for me to understand the real problem of the contact set. Why is the simulation running for small models and stopping when the dimensions are getting bigger but the models parameter are keeping the same?

Can somebody please tell me the background of the contact set calculation? Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be?

Thanks so much

Paul
