No component filter?

I have been told SW has no component filter.  Or part filter when I am trying to select parts in the assembly.  It is really beyond me why they would not have that.  They have every other filter available and NOT that all important one.  Especially in assembly.  And yes I know I can pick from the model tree but if all you have are part #'s and do not know which number is which, this filter would be nice.  Ok so now I am trying to pick a particular part in the assembly on the screen.  This part is at the most forefront and everything else is behind it.  When I put my mouse on this part it selects everything else behind it and not the part I want.  So then I RC and really was hoping to see "select other".  NOTHING.  What the heck?  This is way too easy of a task and I am growing frustrated spending this amount of time on menial tasks instead of doing what I need to do.  Sorry for venting, but SW is killing me today.

Any suggestions as to why I cannot select a part that is clearly visible and how to do this easier would be really appreciated.  The only way I can select this part is to rotate the assembly so that the part in question is the only part in the view and all other parts are out of selection picking view.  Also, how can I see the dims of the mates that I assembled the component by other than to have to open the mates all up?  Is there not a way to just pick on the part and see the dims that I placed the component to within the assembly?

Thanks

Sid
