New System Performance, SW 2016

Hello,

I'm an experienced SW user, using SW almost daily at work.  I've recently built a computer for working from home a few days a week and am in the process of setting it up.  I have installed SW 2016 SP4.0 and the performance is significantly slower than expected.  Computer specs are:

  • Processor: i7-6700K (4.0 GHz)
  • Motherboard: Asus Z170-A
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Hard drive: Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB
  • Graphics Card: See below.

Overall the computer is running very quickly.  I have bench marked it against my work computer on several large spreadsheets and it outperforms no problem.  However with SW, the load time is long, and once loaded, the interface is extremely laggy.  And I'm not talking about when opening large models, I just mean when nothing is open and clicking "new document", "new model", making a simple extrude, etc.  After each click is 2 - 3 second delay.  All templates and files are on my local drive; however SW is accessing a network licence through my VPN connection.  I don't have a graphics card installed currently (running the default Intel HD Graphics 530) but I took the graphics card from my work computer home (Quadro K200), installed it, loaded drivers, and it made minimal difference if any.

I'm wondering if there is any suggestion on what is causing the lag.  I do not believe it is inadequate system properties, although I am less sure than I was.  Does anybody have experience in how to setup SW to perform adequately on a custom built system?

Thank-you very much for your help and advice.
