I've done quite a bit of reading on here with people suggesting what hardware to get in a new comptuer so I think I've been somewhat educated thanks to the efforts of some of the regular posters on here. Many thanks. Here are specs I'm right about to pull the trigger on a new computer. Please note I know many people don't like Dell's, but that is who we buy from because we OEM them with the product we manufacture so everything in the company is Dell, Dell, Dell.
Dell Precision T3500
Windows 7 Professional 64bit
Processor: Quad Core Intel® Xeon® W3565 3.20GHz, 8M L3, 4.8GT/s
Memory:6GB, 1333MHz, DDR3 SDRAM, ECC (3 DIMMS)
Graphics: 1.0GB NVIDIA® Quadro® FX 3800
Hard Drive: 320GB SATA 3.0Gb/s with NCQ and 16MB DataBurst Cache™
With the CPU I read many people like the w3540 and w3580. I could not find either of those with the Dell workstations. This CPU I can't find on the wikipedia page about Xeon's, but it's specs put it pretty close, if not the same, as the Xeon w3570.
With the Video Card, I was torn between the FX 1800 and the FX 3800, but the difference in price was only \$230 so I went for it.
Any suggestions pertaining to this system are welcome. Thanks for the help.
