What do you think about a separate command for creating new components virtual or external to a given ASM? Today, we´ve just one command to create a new component to a given ASM, and the active system option defines, whether the new component is external or virtual. In my experience, this is not very practicable. For sure, it is reasonable to have such a system option to pre-define the systems behaviour for situations and bulk operations, where new components are created automatically, such as model import. But during a typical workday, I several times run into a situation, where I recognize later, that I forgot to change the system option prior to create a new component. Ok, it is possible to correct this later by using make virtual or save part in external file, but this makes a lot of extra steps and a lot of dead files.
Today, we really have some flexibility inside of SWX in terms of multibody VS assembly, configurations VS part-in-part, save as VS make independent, virtual components VS external files, etc. But for me, the last one seems to be somehow underrated in the user base, the community and the corp. I personally would appreciate to make the whole virtual thing more common ...
