Hi,
I have a problem and am wondering if anyone has a solution to it.
Currently making BOMs for purposes of a parts book. Certain parts (painted weldments) have different "ID Numbers" than their unpainted version. I want the painted number to show up in the BOM, but the unpainted number (or both) to show up in the weld drawing.
All existing parts (hardware, etc.) are set up with just one "ID Number" property, which is what the current weld drawing template (and BOM) draws from. Is there any way that I can add a second property (that may not always be required), without creating a mess trying to match old and new parts?
P.S. I set up a custom property template where the painted ID# of new parts would reference the "ID Number" property, but the standard has been to use the unpainted ID. Therefore, without going back and changing all old part/weld files, there will be a mix of correct & incorrect numbers in the BOM.
P.P.S. I considered different configurations (painted, unpainted), but for complex assemblies, this would make revisions much more difficult/subject to errors.
P.P.P.S. We have some parts that have flat, formed, and painted ID numbers, so that would require potentially 3 callout locations.
