Hello,
I am a student and I am working on a project to design and build a baja vehicle to enter into the SAE competitions this upcoming spring and summer. I have been working on the design of the knuckle of the baja vehicle for the front suspension, and I am trying to plot the camber angle change versus vertical wheel travel for the wheel as it is lifted from its lowest position when the shock is fully extended, to its highest position when the shock is fully compressed. I have been using Motion Analysis in SolidWorks to create a plot of the spindle as the wheel travels through its maximum range, as seen in the attached figure called Spindle Trace.
I have created a result plot using Motion Analysis to try to plot the camber angle versus vertical wheel travel. I select the very outer face of the spindle, as seen in the Spindle Face figure, and select Other quantities > Yaw for the quanitity to display. I chose yaw because I believe that it represents the camber angle of the wheel as seen in the Wheel Orientation picture. I got a result plot of the Yaw angle vs wheel travel as seen in the Camber Curve SW picture. The horizontal axis of the plot is of the lowest wheel position on the left, and highest wheel position on the right. After checking against the camber angle in the model, I don't think the curve is as accurate as I would like it to be, so I was wondering if anyone knows of a better way of plotting the camber angle versus vertical wheel travel in SolidWorks?
Thanks,
Peter
