Mirrored Assembly Configurations

Good afternoon,

I am working on a large assembly where I have multiple sub-assemblies. Some of these sub-assemblies are mirrored assemblies. In my overall model I am wanting 3 different configurations. Is there a way to link the mirrored assembly configurations to their "parents" configurations? Basically is there a way to carry supressed parts over into the mirror as supressed parts? The way that we've been doing the mirrors is we open a new blank assembly file, add the assembly into it that we are wanting mirrored, make the mirror, then cut away the original assembly. This lets us have a mirror that is well-linked to the original assembly that if it get's updated, the mirror will get updated as well. There may be better ways to do this, but this is how I was taught to do it here at my company. So I'm curious if you know of anyway to have the mirror connected such that when I change the original assembly into configuration "B," the mirrored assembly will become configuration "B" as well. So far when I try to do this, it doesn't link the configurations in anyway. Hope you guys can help.
