Starting with 2014 beta 2 the need to apply the green OK checkmark has been removed with the exception of the distance and angle mates (numeric input is required) in the new mates context menu.  Now, the mate selected is immediately applied to the closet default position to the selected components.  This should remove unecessary clicks and mouse movement as this new context menu should make applying mates much faster. Please give it another try as we hope the 'quickness' of the workflow has been improved.
