All,
Some background first: I'm currenlty using a Lenovo K320 with a Core i5 750 @ 2.67 Ghz, Quadro FX 1800, and 8 GB of RAM and I'm starting to have preformance issues with our large assemblies.
I've been tasked with collecting info to help determine if we should go down the laptop road for our designers (travel and work from home issues). The current best laptop proc from Intel is the i7 2920XM @ 2.5Ghz and it's specs seem comparable (with the exception of clock speed) to the i7 2600 @ 3.4 Ghz for desktops. I'm not familiar with laptop performance at all with the exception of a Lenovo W510 with i7 920X @ 2.00 Ghz processor in it. The SWx benchmark gave very similar results for the W510 and my K320 desktop.
Is it possible to build a laptop (Lenovo, Dell, Xi, etc) that will meet the performance of a dekstop with an i7 2600 in it? The benchmark results on this site seem to indicate that the laptops just can't compare.
Thanks.
