When the file is transitioned to a release state, that variable is incremented:

In my PDF form I have a field named "rev":

My understanding is if I add the CustomProperty attribute seen below, it should write the "Chiller_rev" value to the "rev" field on the PDF everything I transition the file to a released state.  I've done all of this and it's not sending any information to the PDF.  I feel like I am missing a step, but I can't find anything online that helps out.
