Linking a part file to an assembly file

Here is the situation
Engineering saves an Assembly file to a drive that is read only.
For this example I will use: Partnumber.SLDASM consisting ofPartnumber_a.sldprt and 2 of Partnumber_b.sldprt

The NC department currently makes copies of all the filesnecessary, usually by Pack and Go'ing the assembly. Makes anymodification necessary for machinging such as removing holes oroffsetting faces.

This removes all associativety from the production part; this couldalso leave open the possibility of accidently changing something(mates or dimensions).

What I am trying to get the NC department to do is create a newpart file, named something like "partnumberNC.sldprt" and selectsomething like the insert part function and insert"partnumber.sldasm" from the Engineering drive. This would leavethe associativity in place yet give the option of making anymodifications necessary for machining.

I have looked thru the help and searched this forum and cannot findwhat the best way to do this with an assembly. Does anyone have anysuggestions?SolidworksParts And Features
