I am working with a very large model of a factory right now ( 15000 plus parts) . At Work I am using a dell laptop with a Xeon E3-1545M processor 3.8 ghz turbo, nvidia quadro m2000m 4gb video card and 32 gig of ram. At home I have an i5 4670k overclocked to 4.5 Ghz, a new AMD wx7100 radeon pro 8Gb workstation graphics card and also 32 gig of ram. The crazy thing is that my laptop will rotate this model twice as fast as my overrclocked home computer! How can this be? Anyone have any idea? My home computer is using no more than 10 percent of the graphics cards capabilities and at times it runs my processor up top 90 percent by why would the xeon be faster at a lower GHZ? The only difference i can think of is the 6m L3 cache on my i5 versus the 8m L3 cache on the xeon. Anyone have an idea? I dont want to spend money to upgrade my processor if thats not it.
