Keeping track of usual variables

I keep myself measuring the same things over and over.... what was this diameter ? I realize I am not working professionally. Most of the time sheetmetal parts and the diameter I refer to is where some pieces are supposed to fit into the part I am designing.

I started using the custom property tab builder tool, creating custom variables for all these stuff. Since the task scheduler allows for automation, if I use the same custom property throughout all the parts, if in some moment the fitting changes or we decide to use another tolerance between parts I should be able to run the scheduler and "voilá". Please wake me up if you think I am day dreaming.

However, there´s a couple of problems I foresee:

  1. Name assignment: TRHx_5mm sounded good for a variable name when I created it. I realize the time will come when I will forget why I picked up this custom property name. On the other hand,  "DiametroInteriordeHexagonoParaTuercaremachede5mm" I will probably always understand but does not sound too nice as a variable name
  2. On the other hand, the files start to grow fairly quickly. I do not care too much about SW´s file size because I understand text metadata variables mean nothing in this context. But searching within the custom properties tab for the right one might be a challenge.

Keeping a separate excel file for this might indeed save some time in terms of measuring things, but is not a great improvement.
